Lots of disrespect going on in the sports community this week. Donovan McNabb’s agent said that the Washington Redskins are being “disrespectful” to McNabb after deciding that they are going to bench him for the rest of the season in favor of one of the all-time worst Chicago Bears quarterbacks, Rex Grossman. Now that’s gross, thank you. Does Mike Shanahan really need more game footage of Rexy to make a decision on how bad he is. To pile on the humiliation for the last two weeks of the season Donovan will be pushed back to third string so that the Redskins can evaluate quarterback perennial backup, John Beck. You know who is the smartest man in the NFL right now, Andy Reid.
The disrespecting moved over to the baseball diamond as World Series MVP Edgar Renteria was offered a $1 million contract by the San Francisco Giants after they declined his $10.5 million option for next season. Renteria’s agent said he felt “disrespected” by the Giants and their offer. If anyone out there would like to disrespect me, I willing to take the humiliation in exchange for cash just send your paypal payments to what@ridethepine.com
Now probably the biggest disrespected athlete of the week is hockey goalie Tom Fenton. You might have heard Fenton’s name recently as he was brought up by the Phoenix Coyotes. He was brought up from being a college coach. Yeah, the Coyotes were in NYC to face the Rangers when their starting goalie got the flu. Fenton who last played in college in 2009 lives in the same town as the Coyotes director of scouting and was told to get to Madison Square Garden as soon as possible. Fenton never made it into the game and never got paid. The Coyotes signed him to a tryout contract meaning he didn’t get paid. All the news outlets spin it like, well he got to keep his jersey. Look behind you, I’ve got a jersey too that doesn’t mean shit.
Here is a couple of things to check out while you are on the pine.
- There was a big trade in the NBA involving the Wizards, Magic, and Suns. Truthfully I don’t think any team got better in this deal.
- Zach Grienke was traded to the Brewers which might add proof that he doesn’t have the mental stuff to pitch in a big city.
