Welcome to our first Super Bowl commercial controversy of 2014. SodaStream CEO Daniel Birnbaum told the USA Today, that FOX rejected their commercial featuring actress Scarlett Johansson because of the last line in the commercial — “Sorry, Coke and Pepsi.”

Sidenote: It should be banned for doing a terrible job of making Johansson look sexy.

“What are they afraid of?” asks Birnbaum. “Which advertiser in America doesn’t mention a competitor? This is the kind of stuff that happens in China. I’m disappointed as an American.”

SodaStream’s commercial was reportedly banned by CBS last year because of the same reason. FOX declined comment.

I don’t know if I’m buying this.

It seems this is SodaStream’s attempt to get some free publicity. Great business tactic because if this commercial DID air during the Super Bowl it would be highly forgettable.
