Tiger Woods Stinks at Celebrations
Welcome to Ride The Pine
Let’s Talks sports…
This special Father’s Day edition of Ride The Pine (Hi Dad!) is dedicated to Tiger Woods’ terrible celebrations with his caddy Steve, whatever his last name is. So, I’m watch Tiger Woods finish up his fantastic Saturday round at the 2010 US Open at Pebble Beach (guy had seven birdies) and he ends up smoking a 5 wood onto the 18th green. Watch as Tiger goes nuts and has another terrible celebration with Steve. Let’s flashback to the Masters in 2005 and this chip in at the 16th. Double fist pumps to a weak high-five that was cut short with a attempted hug and back to an off-target high-five. Just embarrassing. Then this putt at the 18th at the 2009 Arnold Palmer Invitational, not as bad but what’s with the awkward hug and shoulder slap. So let’s examine this celebration from Saturday and see what went wrong.
- First, Tiger celebrates the great shot with his signature fist pump. While Tiger’s in mid-fist pump Steve the Caddy already starts to extend anopen hand for a high-five.
- Quickly realizing that Tiger’s closed fist could possibly lead to a fist “pound,” Steve closes hishand.
- But this is when things start getting bad, Tiger opens his hand for a high-five. Steve quickly follows but its too late.
- Tiger is back to the fist pump and Steve just follows through with his open hand swallowing Tiger’s closed fist.
I mean really, this doesn’t need to happen like this. Tiger needs to lead. Tiger, think of it as a dance and Steve is your date. Lead him to the celebration promise land. No fakeouts, 1,2,3,4–1,2,3,4.
And that is my view from the pine.
