Sam Hurd Dope

When Chicago Bears Wide Receiver Sam Hurd was arrested outside of a Chicago steak house for allegedly negotiating the weekly sale of 5–10 kilos of cocaine and 1000 pounds of marijuana with an undercover federal agent, it may have started a federal investigation the likes of which we’ve never seen in the world of sports.

Hurd was allegedly looking for a new supplier because his current supplier couldn’t keep up with his 4 kilo-a-week demand. That demand was broken off into two levels; regular people that Hurd’s co-conspirator dealt with, and high profile customers that Hurd personal dealt with.

There are unconfirmed reports that Hurd’s list high profile customers contained some double-digit NFL players. If that list gets out, it would be the biggest black eye in sports since MLB’s Mitchell Report.

People will question why Hurd would risk an NFL career for all of this. Greed. His NFL salary in 2011 is $685,000. Which is nothing to sneeze at, but in a world of millionaires he was on the lower end of the stick. There are some reports that Hurd was making close to $2 million a month with his drug empire.

With his NFL salary, Hurd could’ve retired in a few years and never had to work again. Now, he may never have to work again because he wouldn’t be allowed to work again (unless it’s trash day on the side of the road).
