The Washington Nationals losing a 2 run lead in the top of the 9th and ultimately being eliminated by the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 5 of the NLDS was just heartbreaking. I can imagine that most Nationals fans are avoiding every piece of technology today so that they don’t have to read, watch, or hear about any replays of their late-inning collapse. But there is one person I don’t feel sorry for and wish he had to watch the final inning over and over again, Mike Rizzo, the Nationals GM who decided to end star pitcher Stephen Strasburg’s season back in September in an effort to protect his arm that was just one year removed from Tommy John surgery.

Which would make sense if you can find one piece of medical evidence that proves that decision correct. I’m not aware of the theory that at the 200 inning mark an arm coming off of Tommy John surgery will magically fall off, I must’ve missed that research article.

You are probably saying to yourself but the Nationals had a chance to win last night even without Strasburg. Please take a moment to slap yourself in the face. Of course they did, but with Strasburg they potentially would never have gotten to a Game 5 scenario. Because of the decision making of the Nationals front office, they deserved to lose, even at the heartbreaking expense of their fans.

The one team I was happy to watch win last night was the New York Yankees. Mostly because I got some sort sick enjoyment of watching A-Rod ride the pine while his team won without him. For being the highest paid player in baseball, A-Rod has not hit over .300 or hit more than 30 home runs since 2009. What else happened that year? People are saying that at the age of 36, A-Rod is in decline but I would counter that argument with the fact that at 36, Mark McGwire was just a year removed from hitting 65 home runs and at 36, Barry Bonds hit 73 home runs. Wait a minute, something seems fishy here. I would assume that the Yankees will give A-Rod another chance in the lineup in the first couple of games in the ALCS but you know if they get put into an elimination game and A-Rod is still struggling, they will hire a HGH guy to stop by, I mean he probably will get benched again.

Tennessee Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt is probably better known for his continued run-ins with the law than as a football player. Now he might be better known as the guy who has to start every sentence with “aw man”
