The sky, illuminated with ribbons of gold and a brilliant white and yellow setting sun, reflected itself in Broad Channel’s orange stillness.

I stood in awe, stationary and silhouetted like the buildings and trees.

Only the airplane drifting across the sky moved. No sound.

I could feel my heartbeat slowing, joining the tranquilities of color, shapes, motionlessness, and movement so slow in the distance that it softened like a bird gliding without effort.

A friend took me to this place for dinner. She selected the place, picked me up, and brought me here for food, company, and the view.

I am thankful my friend understood me so well that she knew I would connect deeply with the scene.
