May is a month that links pivotal narratives in my life.
On one hand, it brings me back to the transformative 35-day period, 11 years ago, when my then-teen sons were diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis (CF).
On the other hand, May is Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month, a time to honor the journeys of those born with, living with, or fighting against this incurable genetic illness, to advocate for their rights with renewed hope and determination, and to recognize their caregivers and those fighting for a cure.
In the same spirit of reflection and remembrance, May is also the month I first visited the historical ruins of the Smallpox Hospital on Roosevelt Island.
