Stopping in the Rush of Life

In our haste, we rush towards nowhere, fleeing from the life within ourselves

Hurried, preoccupied, caught in the cacophony of endless thoughts, we’re like robotic slaves, sad and empty. This is what we’ve become, we humans, God’s living creation. We’ve forgotten to cherish the great gift of life, and we don’t even want to look towards death, pushing it away from our minds, just as we would shoo away a fly sitting on the piece of cake in front of us.

By fleeing from death, we fail to see how dead we already are. We decay in the mire of our absurd thoughts, tangled over the last bit of soul that remains. We perfume ourselves so as not to smell the decay eating away at us from within. We adorn ourselves to hide the ugliness that has taken hold of us.

Someone told me the other day that “A beautiful person is bright, clean-faced. Serene. And exudes joy.” Our departure from the love of God has distanced us from all the beauty around us. It has distanced us from people and even from ourselves. It has estranged us from love. We talk a lot about it, elevate it to the status of art, and immortalize it in poems and paintings, but we no longer know how to live it simply, cleanly, in our hearts. To give it to those we meet on the paths of life. We talk too much and without purpose, living less and less and devoid of meaning.

Let us take and love, dear people, let us love courageously, with all our hearts! Love cannot be taken from us, at most it may not be returned in the same way. And still, it’s wonderful, for us. A heart in which love has sprouted is a living heart, pulsating with joy and radiating soulful warmth. The love we give is the gift we give to ourselves.

Let’s fill our lungs with clean air, sweetened with gentle sunlight, let’s soften our gazes in the joyful smiles of chubby-cheeked children, running from stall to stall, seeking the most beautiful trinkets.

Let’s give hugs and bouquets scented with colorful flowers, and bunches of spring.

Let’s stop in our rush, even for a few moments, and truly live the life that was given to us as a gift years ago. Let’s give time, to time and our loved ones. Let’s become children again, alongside our children. Let’s become children again, alongside our parents. Let’s become children again, beside God.

Let’s clothe our souls in spring!
