When I started this challenge on a whim last September, I was a homebody happy to notice and photograph the quiet details of my neighborhood, deepening my practice of acceptance, gratitude, and peace. A week later, my father passed away. By the month’s end, I was planning a trip to Norway for August 2026 — a long-held desire — but instead of crossing the North Atlantic, I found myself crossing the East River by subway for surgery, then returning home to heal.

Today, as I exited the park, a woman walked ahead of me, mapping the path of my leaving. Her waist-tied sweater and backpack swayed with each step, and without knowing why…
