A few days ago I decided to earn some extra money so I jumped into the ridesharing craze that has been going on for a while now. It’s been a week since I joined Lyft, and I can say it’s a pretty sweet deal. I can meet new people while exploring the new city I live in.

During my rides I have met teenagers, business people, parents, and even currently serving soldiers. It’s awesome for me because I like to meet new people all the time — you never know who you going to meet!

Here are my four observations I have noticed while driving for Lyft:

1. You become more productive with your time

You read articles here all the time on how to make your free time more productive. Driving for Lyft has made my time more productive — when I have down time, I’ll drive and earn some cash. Sure, you won’t become a millionaire this way, but if you take the time and learn the system you can make some serious weekly cash.

2. People usually don’t talk much

Living in modern society where everyone is texting and surfing the social platforms of today, it’s surprising that when people sit in a car with another person, they’re so quiet.

It reminds me of how children tend to be shy and quiet the first time they meet you.

I’m usually the one who starts the conversation, and while I do that I slowly open them up and help make them comfortable enough to speak with me. I always try to make eye contact when I greet them, but I usually see them turn their eyes down. It’s painful to watch.

3. Driving for Lyft is not easy!

Yup! They make it look so easy in their commercials but in reality it’s not. You will not only have to deal with riders but you will also deal with Lyft’s rating system. Mine toggles from 5 star rating to 4.5. Additionally, sometimes the app gets may freeze or have issues, which means you have to think quickly on your feet.

Friday and Saturday is where you make the money. But you also have to deal with picking up drunks and some pretty wild folks.

Never believe that’s it’s easy to make money! It takes work and lots of time. In the end what I’m trying to say is “Get to work!”

4. It feels good to provide a service for the community

If you’re like me, you’re interested in helping out your community as best as you can. Lyft could be a good start.

I find driving to be gratifying — I no longer feel like I’m doing nothing with my down time. After doing Lyft and talking with new people I actually feel so much better and happier. When I come home after a long day of driving Lyft, I actually feel like I’ve accomplished something.

There is so much to experience out there today you just have to get off your ass and do it! And if you’re lazy and you don’t want to drive and you live in Virginia you can use my promo code and get your first ride free! (Here’s the code: JOSE48920)

You will need to download the Lyft App for the promo to work! Remember this is for first time Lyft passengers!

See you out there!
