You down with ERP?

No. Not really.

Ask most Shopify brands for their thoughts on ERP (enterprise resource p̶l̶a̶n̶n̶i̶n̶g̶ pandemonium) and they’ll tell you the messy, outdated technology has long needed a Mount Rushmore-sized facelift.

Thanks to GoodDay, the latest addition to The Ridge Familia, that makeover is finally complete. GoodDay supplants ERP with a unified and comprehensive retail operating system (GoodDayOS™), built natively into Shopify.

GoodDay’s seed round, backed by Ridge and our buds at FirstMark Capital and Flex Capital, signals a monumental shift in the Shopify ecosystem. GoodDay’s generational product benefits merchants of all sizes, but it’s the up-and-coming brands that are fist-pumping the hardest.

Stuck in the ‘90s

Bashing the ERP industrial complex almost feels unfair considering legacy ERP systems haven’t meaningfully improved since the days of boy bands and frosted tips. But it’s smaller online merchants, not enterprises, who’ve suffered most from this innovation deficit.

Building and scaling today’s brands is a Herculean task. Finding product-market fit and generating profits early in a brand’s lifecycle is vital. Existing ERP software, ostensibly “designed” to ease the burden, only complicates matters, and many smaller brands can’t even afford such an investment.

Legacy ERP systems are challenging to configure, lack out-of-the-box implementation, and produce nightmarish user experiences. Spreadsheets and email/Slack messages aren’t effective in handling unexpected supply chain issues. Transferring siloed data in or out of an ERP is tedious. ERPs can’t manage inventory or its costs on a line-level basis.

We could go on, but the “ERProblem” boils down to this: (a) inventory management tools are broken, and (b) merchants badly need a modern retail operating system engineered from the brand operator’s perspective.

The dawn of a GoodDay

GoodDayOS™ is the anti-ERP — easy to set up, easy to use, easily accessible to every operator on the team. In a word: EASY!

GoodDayOS™ handles and optimizes inventory-line item data, a key feature that helps simplify all facets of brand operations from supply chain management to financial reporting. This also turbocharges speed to value. GoodDay customers get up and running in a couple of weeks. No implementation fees. Legacy ERPs can take more than six months and often require hundreds of thousands of dollars for third-party consultants.

That’s not chump change for brands, and half a year’s worth of implementation time reads like a typo. It isn’t. In fact, brands are lucky if it takes six months to install a legacy ERP.

GoodDay’s inventory management is seamless, thorough, and incredibly accurate.

GoodDayOS™ is directly embedded into Shopify, further streamlining the user experience and freeing up time to bring differentiated products to market. It connects to all of the necessary data sources (WMS, RMA, etc.), and operators connect to GoodDay just as seamlessly. All team members with a Shopify login can use the system. No need to fret about user access fees.

If this isn’t enough catnip for e-tailers, the stats from GoodDay’s early users might do the trick:

  • 10% (or more) revenue boost via new sales channels, more sell-throughs, and selling against future inventory
  • $150K+ improvements to cash conversion cycles by reducing WOS of inventory on hand and reductions in excess/obsolete inventory
  • ~3–5% savings on per-unit vendor costs and ~24+ days of work saved per year by decreasing manual reporting and duplicative data entry

GoodFounders

We love founders who’ve been there and done that. Repeat founders with domain expertise, especially firsthand experience battling the very problem they’re now trying to solve.

GoodDay ticks all of these boxes. Even better, co-founders Kyle Hency and Dave Wardell are old pals of ours. We previously worked with Kyle, CEO, and Dave, CPO, at two standout Ridge portcos: Chubbies (acquired by Solo Stove) and Loop (a Forbes “Next Billion-Dollar Startup”).

Rounding out GoodDay’s founding trio is John Gully, a former senior engineering leader at Shopify. Like Kyle and Dave, John knows all too well that ERP dissatisfaction is the leading cause of high blood pressure in brand operators (WebMD).

We couldn’t handpick a better team to lead the next generation of e-commerce operations: seasoned industry pros with the requisite empathy, leadership and technical chops to take GoodDay — and brands — the distance.

GoodFuture

The future of GoodDay is bright. Gleaming. Aurora borealis-like.

With a singular product built by brand-builders, for brand-builders, a proven systems- and process-based approach, and the steady hand of a veteran team guiding its steps, GoodDay is well-positioned to make a big run.

Congrats to GoodDay on the huge milestone, and congrats to the emerging brands that will reap the benefits of a next-gen retail OS.

It’s a GoodDay — and even better days lie ahead!

Want to join GoodDay’s amazing team and do some serious good for emerging Shopify brands? They’d love to hear from you.
