February 1 Bay Area Quantum Computing Meetup
6 February 2018
by Ryan Karle
Last week in San Francisco, Y Combinator hosted the fourth Bay Area Quantum Computing Meetup. In keeping with the theme for the evening — near-term applications of quantum computers — we heard from three great speakers working on the front lines of quantum computing:
- Alejandro Perdomo-Ortiz from NASA QuAIL/USRA
- Guillaume Verdon from quantum machine learning startup Everettian
- Johannes Otterbach from Rigetti Computing
As quantum computing enthusiasts, we were excited to see the venue filled with knowledgeable early adopters — the enthusiasm in the venue was palpable. Johannes discussed our recent demonstration of unsupervised machine learning on our 19-qubit device. Guillaume ran through his team’s recent work on Boltzmann machines, and Alejandro discussed quantum computing’s implications for machine learning in the near term, which you can read more about in his 2017 paper.
Stay tuned for some exciting announcements in the weeks to come. We’re excited to spend more time with this emerging community of quantum programmers in 2018!
