Rigetti brings practical quantum computing to the UK

Rigetti is on a mission to build the world’s most powerful computers to solve humanity’s most important and pressing problems. Delivering our quantum systems over the cloud to pioneering organizations fosters acceleration and innovation in the field, unlocking the potential of this groundbreaking technology. Rigetti has been delivering quantum computing over the cloud to end-users since 2017, and today we celebrate a significant milestone in our program to expand these capabilities in the UK.

A year ago we began work in a multi-sector consortium to launch the UK’s first commercial computer and deliver practical quantum computing capabilities to the UK ecosystem. At the one-year mark of the program we have completed building our first quantum computing system in the UK and plan to make it available through Rigetti Quantum Cloud Services in early 2022.

Bringing together industry experts and full-stack quantum computing expertise is a winning combination for demonstrating practical quantum computing and creating a clear path for commercialization. Through our UK consortium we leverage a complete quantum supply chain — from fabricating quantum chips at Rigetti’s Fab-1, the industry’s only dedicated captive quantum foundry, to developing next generation hardware in partnership with Oxford Instruments, and designing quantum algorithms tailored to real world problems in finance and materials science, led by the University of Edinburgh, Standard Chartered Bank, and Phasecraft.

A key component to delivering practical quantum computing is addressing the challenges of scaling quantum devices. This year we introduced the world’s first modular, multi-chip quantum processor that solves these roadblocks and will enable us to build and deliver future fault-tolerant systems.

By partnering with pioneering organizations who are identifying real-world use cases, and delivering scalable, powerful quantum computing technology over the cloud, Rigetti is empowering the UK to solve its most pressing problems and harness the value of practical quantum computing.
