Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the CryptoChicks Hackathon/Conference in Toronto. It was such a great experience to be able to connect with so many like-minded and knowledge-hungry individuals wanting to learn more about blockchain and what it is being used for. I wanted to write a summary of the whole experience and share it with the community:

  • We received a lot of great feedback on what Right Mesh is doing: providing a way to connect for those who have limited access. Meeting people from all over the world, like from Columbia and India, who truly understand the need for a localized mesh to help alleviate congestion in the network, was inspiring!
  • It was great having both product and technical team members at the event to answer questions people had about RightMesh. Srilekha Kirsh, one of our developers, and I ran a workshop on “How to Mesh” in which we demonstrated how to create a simple RightMesh app using one of our open source examples. Brianna MacNeil, our blockchain product manager, was on a panel titled “Building a Blockchain Business”.

  • The diversity of the audience — in knowledge, gender, age and race — made the event particularly stimulating and interesting. It was a great event to inspire and encourage women in the field or those looking to get into the blockchain space.
  • The concept of a ‘decentralized hackathon’ was great in helping accommodate hackers who wanted to participate remotely. There was a hacker in San Francisco and even one in Zimbabwe.

Many thanks to CryptoChicks for organizing such an amazing event!
