SXSW

RightMesh CEO and Co-Founder, John Lyotier, and Entrepreneur in Residence, Joe Allan Deobald, joined over 70,000 people from around the world to attend SXSW 2019. This prestigious annual festival celebrates the most innovative technology, film, and music, and fosters a collaborative spirit unlike any other.

Our CEO, John Lyotier, spoke on a panel on ‘Combating Global Poverty on the Blockchain’ alongside Michael Casey, Senior Advisor at MIT Media Lab, Vinay Gupta, CEO of Mattereum, and Mihriban Ersin, COO of Colendi. Each of the speakers offered their unique perspectives on how to address the issue of the growing digital divide felt by underprivileged global citizens. This is a problem close to our hearts at RightMesh, and we are grateful to have had the opportunity to share our knowledge on a large stage.

For the duration of the festival, John and Joe met with fellow entrepreneurs, innovators, and Nodebodies from around the globe. Both left with a discovery of applicable new ideas and learned about innovations that caused them to think different.

BC Tech Summit

The conference explored how we use emerging technologies — from AI to Robotics, Quantum to Cleantech, Blockchain to AR/VR — to solve the biggest challenges facing BC and the world today.

With this theme, our Co-Founder, Chris Jensen, spoke on a panel on ‘Blockchain Products Shaping the Future of the World’ alongside, Jody Rebak, Chief of Staff at Dapper Labs, Bill McGraw, President and CEO of Northstar Venture Tech, and moderator Kate Wilson, Technology Editor of the The Georgia Straight. The panel discussed how identifying how blockchain technology can create value for businesses and the technology’s potential to disrupt industries including banking, healthcare, real estate, education, and agriculture.

Youth Innovation Day

RightMesh was proud to participate in the #BCTECHSummit Youth Innovation Day. This event provided 1,000 grade 10–12 students an opportunity to learn about the BC tech ecosystem and offered diverse and immersive programming on relative topics in the technology sector.

Our Chief Product Officer, Saju Abraham, conducted a workshop on the real benefits and pitfalls of blockchain technology to 250 students. Through hands-on exercises, students learned how the underlying mechanics works in a blockchain and gained insight into the kind of revolutionary applications that can be built with this technology.

The students asked great questions and left with more knowledge on decentralized systems to allow them to consider next steps in their education and careers.
