RightLabs

  • Connectivity in the Philippines: Our Co-Founder and CEO, John Lyotier, and Product Manager Blockchain, Brianna MacNeil, had a series of productive meetings in the Philippines with potential partners, including major telcos and several new entrants. All were very receptive to our offering and we will be progressing to explore how we can further collaborate with each other to enhance connectivity in the Philippines.
  • RightMesh Graphics: How RightMesh works can be a hard concept to understand, so we’ve been working on creating a set of graphics that visually explains how RightMesh works which will help enable user adoption. The graphics will be used on our website, printed for meetups and tradeshows, and used in other collateral materials.

Tech

In continuation with his updated Roadmap post, Dr. Jason Ernst released the fifth in his eight-part series on Multiple Superpeers. This week’s post covers scalable remote peer discovery.

As mentioned in the previous post, maintaining the full state of the entire global RightMesh network on every phone will not scale — so instead, we are proposing to make use of the hierarchy that exists in our system design so devices only need to know who is in near proximity, and then have the ability to query for devices which are farther away. We do this through what we are calling the “FIND” request.

Events

  • September 22 and 23: Our CPO, Saju Abraham, represented RightMesh at the Global People’s Summit and Social Good Summit in New York. A focus at both events was the important role of connectivity in achieving the UN’s 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) and how smartphones and mobile apps are instruments for empowerment and reducing inequality. This further reinforces the need for RightMesh as a new way of providing connectivity to the unconnected to empower lives.
  • September 25: RightMesh Co-Founder, Chris Jensen, spoke at ADI Summit, a conference covering the new innovation in Blockchain and DLT Technology. Chris discussed the areas of initial mass adoption for blockchain platforms within markets that need reform the most, such as the financial space within emerging markets.
  • September 26: RightMesh Co-Founder, Chris Jensen, spoke on a panel about the ‘Founder’s Journey’ during Startup Week Vancouver, in Canada.
  • September 26: To assist the scaling of our development team, members of our tech team attended the Vancouver Startup Week’s Recruitment Fair. It was a great opportunity to meet with some awesome technical talent, and bring new candidates into our hiring pipeline.
  • September 26: The Khulna office hosted their annual Hackathon for 2018! Cross-departmental teams of five worked to tackle challenges faced in the transportation, education or healthcare sectors — or challenges faced by global refugees — over a 24 hour period.
Each team spent the first 2–4 hours of the hackathon in the field, observing real people working in their jobs, living their daily lives, and helping their families. Teams then interviewed individuals to identify the problems that they face each day and used those learnings to apply them to their hackathon challenges.
Congratulations to team Clt+Alt+ Del, team Low Key, team AI Rider, and team Tech Jammers for winning the challenge!
The start of the 2018 Hackathon in Khulna
  • October 1: RightMesh Community Development Manager, Jose Ortega, and CCO, Dana Harvey, participated in a virtual meetup in Peru with Blockchain Peru to discuss the ‘Digital Future’ and the RightMesh project.
  • October 2: We had the pleasure of hosting a meetup in Manila, Philippines, with our friends from ConsenSys and Lifemesh. We had a great discussion about the value of blockchain applications specifically in the Philippines.
