To call this week fantastic would be an understatement. The team worked around the clock to reach a significant technical milestone and execute a successful public pre-allocation round of the token generating event. We are so proud to have successfully tested our µRaiden Java port and exchange of ERC20 tokens over mesh, and equally as humbled to have reached our pre-allocation hard-cap minutes after opening registration for participation.

TL:DR;

  • Successfully tested µRaiden Java port and exchange of ERC20 tokens over mesh
  • TGE Pre-allocation round subscriptions successfully reached hard cap in 8 minutes 4 seconds
  • RightMesh acquired the Singapore based stealth startup, Piperchain app
  • Announced that former Open Garden Founder and CEO, Micha Benoliel, is joining RightMesh as an Advisor and Lucien Loiseau, Ph.D., is joining as a Lead Mesh Networking Scientist
  • Launched our flagship app, meshIM alpha

Tech Progress

  • ERC20 tokens exchanged for tokens: When a phone joins the mesh now, it automatically creates an outgoing micropayment channel to the superpeer and an incoming channel from the superpeer. This means it can operate as either a buyer or a seller of data. When data is sent to the Internet, remote signed transactions for the cost of the data are encapsulated within the data packet. This allows either party to close the channel at any time to recover the tokens from the channel, and that the channel will be an accurate representation of the amount of data bought or sold between two devices in the mesh.

  • Alpha launch of meshIM app: We officially released and announced the alpha of our flagship app, meshIM. The code was pushed to github this week, and can be seen here: https://github.com/RightMesh/meshIM. We also released a video showing meshIM operating over rightmesh in the office using Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi direct and BT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85KSR3qukP8. This app allows users to message one another regardless of whether they have internet access or not.
  • RM Library: Basic wallet functionality has been integrated into RM library. It now has some rough functionality to display the channel balance in the incoming and outgoing channel balances.
  • TGE Smart Contracts: The Smart contracts for the TGE crowd contribution period have completed an audit round and some small fixes have been made. One more audit is scheduled and then we will be ready to deploy the smart contracts for review from the community.

UX Progress

  • New Flare Logo: We’ve finalized the logo design for Flare, our emergency communication app (pictured below).

💡Inspiration behind the new logo

“The logo symbolizes natural disasters (waves & fire), as well as location in the map pin — I didn’t want to make it all red and alarming, so there is a RightMesh-like green to counterbalance the fire-ness. The icon can ultimately be used to symbolize the brand within the app and externally, and will make a nice app icon.”

Laura Lefurgey-Smith, UI/UX Designer

  • Flare Research Recruitment: As part of our research for Flare, we are looking to interview people who work in disaster response services. If this is you, or you know someone who you think would be interested, please contact partnerships@rightmesh.io.

TGE Progress

Successful Pre-Allocation Round: We are delighted to announce that the pre-allocation round of our TGE was successfully subscribed in just 8 minutes 4 seconds.

Our Canadian team worked through the night answering questions, providing updates, and protecting our channel against scammers. Meanwhile, our co-founder Chris Jensen, worked side-by-side with the Bitcoin Suisse team in Zurich.

Some key stats from the pre-allocation:

  • 1,405 new applications were processed and accepted by Bitcoin Suisse from our fast-track form;
  • Over 300 contributed to the pre-allocation round;
  • 98.57% contributed in ETH, 1.3% Euro and .13% CHF;
  • Minimum contribution was $1,000 USD equivalent;
  • Maximum contribution was $50,000 USD equivalent;

Thank you to those who supported our pre-allocation round. For those who were unable to participate, we will be conducting a crowd contribution period. Details to be announced soon.

Scam Alerts

Telegram

During the initial rush of the TGE, we turned off URL access to our Telegram channel to stop scammers who were banned from re-joining and posting fraudulent links to our channel. When you do this in Telegram, it releases the URL. This was anticipated by scammers who then took our URL to direct contributors to their false channel.

We alerted our community quickly, and messaged the 20 people who had joined the fake channel to alert them of the scam.

All links from our website have been updated to the new handle.

Our official telegram channels are:

As noted consistently in all of our communications, contributions for the RightMesh TGE Pre-Allocation round were only to be made through the Bitcoin Suisse platform. Deposit addresses are ONLY given inside the Bitcoin Suisse Platform.

There have also been a number of imposters accounts within the RightMesh channel that are pretending to be RightMesh admin. These fake admin are direct messaging our community members requesting funds, email addresses and personal information.

The fake users send out false emails from what appears to be a rightmesh.io address (as pictured below). The emails contain counterfeit URLs that redirect potential contributors to mirrored RightMesh websites and to the scammers wallets where they are conducting their own ICOs.

Do not be fooled by these scam emails!

RightMesh will NEVER solicit funds via Telegram, email, Twitter, our website, direct message or any form of social media. All contributions will be managed through the Bitcoin Suisse platform. Anyone who contacts you with a special offer or asks for you to send them crypto directly is trying to scam you.

Here’s how you can check whether you are speaking with an official RightMesh admin:

Always check the username of the person you are speaking with to make sure they are officially part of our team.

Acquisitions

  • Acquisition of Piperchain: This week, we announced that RightMesh has acquired the stealth startup Piperchain App. As part of this acquisition, we were excited to announce that former Open Garden Founder and CEO, Micha Benoliel, is joining RightMesh as an Advisor and Lucien Loiseau, Ph.D., is joining as a Lead Mesh Networking Scientist.

“Not only do we get access to a decentralized application that can incorporate the RightMesh protocol and has promise for emerging markets, this was also an acquihire of one of the smartest minds in the world in mesh networking and routing protocols. Our strategy has always been, and will continue to be, to hire the best scientists and engineers in the world, regardless as to their present location. Lucien will be a great complement to our existing sciences team, consisting of Dr. Jason Ernst, RightMesh CTO and Chief Networking Scientist, Dr. Zehua (David) Wang, and dozens of other engineers and specialists. We are building something that has never been built before, and we’ll need some of the greatest minds on the planet to achieve our audacious mission.”

Community & Events

  • From February 10–11th, RightMesh was proud to sponsor, mentor and judge the first Hack For Humanity hackathon hosted by the Vancouver chapter of Girls in Tech and the University of British Columbia. 13 outstanding hacks were built and presented by the 75 participants, 80% of whom were women. 10 people from the RightMesh team attended to provide mentorship and support for participants. RightMesh sponsored a prize for the Best App for Social Impact which was judged and awarded by Jenna Mortemore, (Product Manager) and Brianna MacNeil (Blockchain Product Manager). The prize was awarded to a project called Online Sex-Work Risk Predictor which analyzed behavior on adult websites to determine whether a user was at risk for recruitment into the sex industry.

Why did we select them for Best App for Social Impact? We selected this project for the award because it was an excellent use of data science for social good. In the future, these insights could be plotted geographically to identify areas with high concentrations of at risk individuals for sex work recruitment. These insights could then be provided to social workers and police to plan outreach programs to proactively attempt to mitigate the risk of recruitment for at risk individuals.
