Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) are growing substantially rapidly and popular due to the fact that investors and collectors have been getting involved in the latest blockchain craze. With such a boom, a wide range of NFT artworks were sold for millions of dollars at auction.

Below are the biggest sales to date!

10. Beeple’s Crossroad — $6.6M

Crossroad NFT was created by Beeple as a meme surrounding the 2020 presidential race. It was minted as a depiction of the political tension in the US. Beeple also shared that he already created various versions of the NFT depending on who won the presidency.

9. CryptoPunk #7804 — $7.58M

CryptoPunks made up a large number of entries on this list. The 10000-Ethereum based avatars were created in 2017 and given away by Larva Labs.

According to CryptoSlam, CryptoPunk #7804 was first purchased in Jan 2018 for 12 ETH. It was then displayed for sale again in Feb 2021 for 4200 ETH.

8. CryptoPunk #3100 — $7.67M

The eighth most expensive NFT ever sold was also a part of the CryptoPunk collection. The NFT piece was sold in March 2021 for 4200 ETH, which is equivalent to $7.67 at that time. #3100 is an Alien wearing a blue and white headband.

7. CryptoPunk #4156 — $10.26M

The #4156 NFT is one of the rare 24 apes CryptoPunks and was sold multiple times throughout its lifespan. After purchasing the CryptoPunk #4156 for 650 ETH, which equaled to $1.25M in Feb 2021, an anonymous gave up the iconic visual part of his branding for 2500 ETH, which is equivalent to $10.26M at that time.

6. CryptoPunk #7523 — $11.7M

Known as the “COVID Alien” because of its famous facemask trait, CryptoPunk #7523 became the largest punk sale in 2021. The NFT was sold in June 2021 for $11.7M at a Sotheby’s “Natively Digital” auction. The NFT ultimately belonged to Shalom Meckenzie, an Israel entrepreneur and the biggest shareholder of DraftKings.

5. CryptoPunk #5822 — $23.7M

Continuing in the trend of super-expensive ‘alien’ style, CryptoPunk #5822 busted all expectations when it was sold at $23.7M on February 12, 2022. Being one of the only nine aliens in the collection, the alien avatar type is the rarest of the bunch sold at a high price to Deepak Thapliyah, CEO of Chain.

4. HUMAN ONE — $29.98M

HUMAN ONE is a digital life-generative sculpture created by Beeple. The NFT depicts an astronaut walking through an ever-changing environment. The concept attracted various investors at Christie’s, and finally the crypto billionaire Ryan Zurrer purchased it at the price of $29.98M on December 9, 2021.

3. CLOCK — $52.7M

CLOCK is an NFT created by Pak and Julian Assange. The piece was created with the aim of raising funds for Julian’s defense after he was controversially imprisoned in 2019. Assanga is currently imprisoned on charges of espionage against the US government. The NFT itself is simply a clock representing the number of days since Assange has been imprisoned.

2. The First 5000 Days — $69.3M

The First 5000 Days is an NFT artwork created by Michael Winkelmann. The artwork is a collage of 5000 individual NFTs that Beeple created for his Everyday’s series. In 2007, Michael began to create and post a new digital artwork online every single day, which resulted in an NFT of 5000 digital pictures.

The artwork was auctioned at Christie’s with an initial bid of approximately $100 made by traditional customers. Finally, it was bought by Vignesh Sundaresan.

1. The Merge — $98.1M

Last but not least, the most expensive NFT ever sold is Pak’s ‘The Merge’, which was officially sold on December 2, 2021. The NFT was sold on Nifty Gateway to 28,893 collectors who purchased 312,686 units of mass. These pieces could be stockpiled to make a bigger mass and sell it on the secondary market. By the end of the sale, a total of $91.8M was spent, making it the most expensive NFT sold to date.
