Retail Execs Meet to Talk Product Safety

In conjunction with the International Consumer Product Health and Safety Organization (ICPHSO) Annual Meeting and Symposium, RILA’s Product Safety Committee met this week in Orlando, FL.

Key topics discussed included regulatory reform, the CPSC’s import surveillance program, effective recall communication, and stakeholder engagement. Jason McLinton, Retail Council of Canada, gave a presentation on product safety developments in Canada and members participated in round table benchmarking session on a variety of product safety issues and regulatory enforcement trends.

The meeting featured a keynote panel on The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) in Transition, led by the newly appointed Acting Chair of the CPSC, the Honorable Ann Marie Buerkle, and CPSC Commissioner Joseph P. Mohorovic, and was moderated by Kathleen McGuigan, RILA’s senior vice president & deputy general counsel and Matt Howsare, partner, Mintz Levin.

Ms. McGuigan also will be a featured panelist at an ICPHSO plenary session on The Potential Impact of a New Presidential Administration on the Consumer Product Safety Commission and a break out session on Roles and Responsibilities of Non-Manufacturers Trying to Reduce the Risk of Product They Sell.

RILA’s Product Safety Committee serves as a forum for quality assurance, product stewardship, sourcing, legal, and government affairs professionals to share information specific to retailers’ product safety compliance challenges, including proposed legislation and regulations and new compliance trends.
