In October during our annual Developer Conference we announced the beta of our High Volume SMS solution — a solution designed to build upon our Toll-free and Standard (P2P) SMS. This solution allows RingCentral Office customers to send thousands upon thousands of commercial, repetitive, or mass SMS, allowing them to engage their customers in new and innovative ways.

However, we also recognize, especially with the challenges of COVID-19 and social distancing that people want to be able to communicate with a more personal connection. We also heard about work/life balance challenges, and the desire to schedule or delay messages.

After a lot of hard work behind the scenes, we are proud to announce our plans for a new messaging service that takes messaging to a new, personal level.

RingCentral Long-form, Physical “SMS”

This newest service, tentatively called Long-form Physical SMS, allows you to create physical messages in nearly unlimited fonts and colors. Unlike traditional SMS which is limited by character count, Long-form Physical SMS is measured by the physical weight of the message you are sending, allowing you to “weight” more important messages, and even include physical attachments such as printed pictures, handwritten notes, cards, and more!

And unlike our High Volume SMS solution that provides instant delivery, the new service helps balance work/life balance by delaying messages on average between 1–3 days, however multiple speeds and transit options including ground, air, and overnight delivery will be available. Unlike our High Volume SMS, these messages also require manual retrieval, allowing the recipient to wait until a more convenient time to check to see if they have any new messages, and to collect all of their messages at one time.

Long-form Physical SMS (Send Me Something) starts at just $0.55 for one-ounce messages with standard first-class service, and spans into hundreds of dollars for sending larger messages with attachments worldwide.

Look for more details coming June 31, 2020- including additional innovations such as our “never lost” cell phone solution, allowing you to tether your phone to your wall via a plug and play connector. Our team is also exploring a way to prevent accidental calls using an innovative rotary system.

Until next year
