Hello RISE Community,

In this newsletter, we will give a roundup of what RISE has been up to in the month of July. We have had lots of technology developments, a new TypeScript developer join the team and a meetup this month.

Technology Developments

  • We progressed the RISE core codebase to v1.1.0t and you can read more about the enhancements in this earlier released post titled RISE Node v1.1.0t in Testnet. Towards the end of July the team made several more improvements and released RISE core v1.1.1t in testnet and you can compare the changes between the two versions in Github here. The community is welcome to join us in #testnet on Slack. Core 1.1.1 is expected to release to mainnet in August. On the RISE core blockchain repository there have been 10 commits push to development and 104 commits to all branches. On development, 24 files have changed and there have been 7,480 additions and 218 deletions. In particular, we have made significant improvements to:

1. Transactions Per Second

2. Security

3. Data Integrity

  • Andrea has also given the RISE Block Explorer a much needed refresh with explorer v1.7.1. Users will be able to search for RISE specific blockchain data such as a block, a transaction, an address or a delegate. The issue regarding Top Accounts not working has also been fixed. There is a wealth of information that can be found in the explorer, particularly within Top Accounts, Activity Graph, Delegate Monitor and Network Monitor. You will also be able to quickly glean near real time information, such as the number of blocks in the RISE blockchain since the genesis block (Height) and most current supply of RISE the network has generated (Supply).
  • Andrea has also worked on a migration to fix the RISEBOT, which can now be used within the RISE Slack. We have already seen lots of transactions take place between community members and nothing quite shows what it means to ‘make it rain’ more than a graphical visualisation of the RISE blockchain. You can view this in near real time on the Activity Graph on the RISE Block Explorer.
  • Andrea supported the RightBTC development team with integration of RISE by rewriting and updating the JAVA API wrapper to include offline signing.
  • Matteo has been writing more integration tests on the ProtoBuf branch and for TransportV2 API. Protocol buffers are a language-neutral, platform-neutral extensible mechanism for serialising structured data.
  • Jose has primarily been continuing to review the RISE source code and adding more code comments.
  • Mart has mocked up the account settings, account overview flows and made continuous modifications to wallet designs. These mocks were integrated into the user tests. The wallet users tests have also been translated into Korean with support from two community members. He also improved and finished the delegate voting flow design and added that to Github. Mart has conducted tests from the initial group taking part in on-boarding wallet tests and made adjustments to UX accordingly. Thank you to our testers who have helped with user testing of the new wallet so far. We will share more insights from testing in the near future.
  • Mart also took up the maintainership of the rise-py repository, to ensure it is also available as risesdk in PyPI. Over the coming months he will be updating the Python SDK to include newer APIs to interact with the new codebase.
  • Please welcome Tobias, who is our newest developer to join the RISE team! Tobias is a full stack JS developer who has been working with the web in a commercial capacity for over 15 years. His expertise covers high
traffic websites, complex webapps and open source projects. Tobias specialises in TypeScript, NodeJS and blockchain technologies. This month Tobias has been integrating a state management framework (MobX) to the new wallet codebase, a required step to build more complex web apps. In addition to this, Tobias has worked on numerous key feature implementations, such as adding accounts (more than 1), status, recent transactions, added accounts, second passphrase and settings page and forms.
  • Overall in the wallet repository (private) 79 commits have been pushed to master and 83 commits to all branches. On master, 61 files have changed and there have been 4,751 additions and 2,393 deletions.
  • We have added a bot from Github that will automatically post updates to the RISE Slack and Telegram group. We hope this helps to keep community members up to date with developments in the most relevant repositories.

Community Developers

Earlier this month we highlighted that we are keen to grow the developer community for the RISE projects. With this in mind, we would like to reiterate that we have Bounties, an ongoing Developer Application Challenge and Core 1.1.0/1.1.1t Testing available for participation. If you are keen to collaborate with other community developers or start using some of the APIs, you are welcome to join #community_developers on the RISE Slack. We also have an ongoing referral bounty of 750 RISE for community members that refer a crypto community developer to us that successfully helps out with RISE development.

Furthermore, as a community member you are able to run a RISE node in mainnet and/or testnet to help secure the network. A community developer created an easy to follow RISE Node Installation & Server Preparation Guide to support new community members. Thank you to spookiestevie.

RISE Korea Meetup

In July we hosted our first RISE meetup in Seoul, Korea to share more about the RISE vision and technology we are building for developers. We also had the chance to meet with some innovative companies that are able to help build out the RISE ecosystem in Asia. Please also note that the community have created a RISE Korean Telegram channel.

RISE Lightpaper

We have been working to continuously refine the Lightpaper and the first version is expected to be published in August. Our development team have been busy with development, which has resulted in further additions, such as several core enhancements, new wallet and value proposition. The first of many versions will be scheduled for publication after the release of RISE Core 1.1.1 to mainnet.

RISE Monthly Statistics

The below chart highlights 74.6% of RISE (95,027,046) voted to elect the 101 Delegates and 2.1% of RISE (2,679,430) on 101 to 202 Delegates securing the network. 23.26% of RISE (29,610,472) is non-voting.

Total RISE Supply 127,316,948. Chart generated 31st July 2018.

To close on this month, we thank the community for supporting RISE and we hope to give you more great news as we progress the vision of RISE.
