Hello RISE Community,

In this newsletter, we will give a roundup of what RISE has been up to in the month of November.

RISE Core

Earlier in the month of November, we published an overview of the new Delegates Proof Of Stake version 2 consensus changes. You can read the update here: An Overview — RISE v1.3.x consensus changes. The full source code changelog can be found in Github. The four new changes are outlined as below:

  1. Fair vote weight for future sidechains
  2. Productivity as ranking factor
  3. Delegate banning for poor performance
  4. Active delegates pool modification to allow more delegates to forge

After successful testing in testnet we are ready to deploy version 1.3.2 on mainnet. We would also like to take the opportunity to thank our community members that helped our developers with testing.

The following actions are for Delegates and Node Operators only:

*Delegates please upgrade your nodes ASAP*

The new consensus will kick in as a *UASF* on block `1536256` which is expected to be forged the 6th of December around 9 am UTC.

If you fail in performing the upgrade, you will likely miss blocks and eventually your Delegate may be permanently banned by the network as a Delegate. For further commands and support, please join #delegates channel in Slack.

This month in total on the RISE Node repository the team have pushed 15 commits to development and 30 commits to all branches. On development, 47 files have changed and there have been 1,535 additions and 969 deletions.

RISE Wallet

The new RISE web wallet entered beta testing phase this month. Thank you to all community members and wallet testers who took part in helping Mart and Tobias with finding bugs and general feedback. All issues can be located in the Github issue tracker.

You are able to see the changelog from beta1 (the first public with ledger support) to beta3 in Github. Changes included:
- server push (changed balance, new transactions, delegates)
- support for password managers on mobile
- FIAT calculation (coingecko.org)
- verifying the Ledger address
- Continuous Integration (travis.org)
- many fixes

This month, on the RISE Wallet repository we have pushed 92 commits to master and 106 commits to all branches. On master, 83 files have changed and there have been 3,291 additions and 1,248 deletions.

Developer Documentation

Julian has been finalising the documentation, adding guides for tasks like creating accounts and monitoring the blockchain, which can be seen in the ‘Introduction’. He has also been integrating the schema work into the new repository and then working with docker. Docker will be very helpful to the community. The initial goal is to be able to deploy a node without any dependencies other than node and docker, and to be able to build up and run a testnet locally with a simple command. The repository is currently work in progress and not for use yet without a high quality readme and some bugs to fix. As this is currently being built, stay tuned for updates in the near future.

Roadmap

Items on the RISE development roadmap are an outline of what we are working on and towards, with that in mind some timeframes are subject to change based on testing, resources and our own estimation of how long some milestones have taken to achieve. With the great development we have made this year, we also have had to make some minor amendments to our Roadmap pertaining to next year. Towards the end of 2018, we will be re-evaluating the achievements made this year and how to accelerate development going forward.
