Interview with Kojo Marfo, Founder of My Runway
I recently spoke with Kojo Marfo, Founder of My Runway at our Riset Event. We spoke about his journey from having an idea to launching his first My Runway fashion show. We discussed the state of his industry, how his company has grown year on year and the secret sauce which got Kojo and his team to hosting one of the biggest fashion shows in the UK.
So Kojo, Why did start your company?
I wanted to create a platform where young creatives can engage with each other and build their interest and skills whilst working towards a production.
You spoke about bringing many different types of people into your launch, How did you go about building your team and other parts to support your idea?
I adopted a strategy where apart form already created roles, we allowed external creatives to be a part of our group and still maintain their preferred roles. This made the whole experience more organic as it didn’t feel like work.
What do you feel were the key drivers to your success?
Our youthfulness and ability to recreate an amazing experience.
If you could give a piece of advice to someone starting their own business what would it be?
Ideas are the new currency. You need money, yes but you need to think first. Don’t under estimate your power of imagination. Don’t be afraid to collaborate.
What opportunities do you see in your industry going forward?
Creatives are needed more than ever. In marketing, design, campaign everything. The industry is buzzing with new ideas and people ready to disrupt the system and RUN this!
