The EleMentals are 11 science enthusiasts who encompass everything that Rishi was: Fearless, Full of Wonderment and Respectful. It is our vision to go beyond our obvious potential and broaden our capabilities to tackle issues that trouble us the most.

First issue: Mobility for the physically challenged. We see everyday a lot of people, especially in villages, who have lost their limb and can’t afford prosthetic limbs. This hugely decreases their mobility and hence reduces their capability to go to work to far away places. This also causes an issue in earning money and hence providing for their families.

Our Solution: The Mobility Companion. A cheap and unique piece of equipment that allows a normal mode of transport, The Bicycle, to be altered in such a way that it becomes compatible with a person who has lost either one of their limbs or both of their limbs. This will allow them to easily travel short distances at a greater speed and without much exertion just like a bicycle rider.

An Inspiration for our design

Description of The Mobility Companion: The Mobility Companion will be a retractable device that will have one of its ends as a clamp to tightly latch on to the pedal of the Bicycle. The clamp will be attached to an iron rod via a pivot. This iron rod is actually two rods with one slightly bigger than the other. Each of these rods will have 6 holes in them of equal sizes and a stick to go through those holes. This setup will allow the user to change the length of The Mobility companion as per their wish. The other end of The Mobility Companion will have a circular cone made out of plastic which looks kind of like a tapered bottom half of a plastic bottle. This is the place where the user’s foot go. This will also be connected to the rod via a pivot to allow free rotation as their momentum permits while riding the bicycle.

Our Vision: To see The Mobility Companion being used in every household to make the commute between home and work for a physically challenged person much easier, faster and cheaper.

Scientific Concepts in Play:

Material Study: Comfort is one of the most important things for us humans, especially when you are attaching something with your body that isn’t originally part of it. So we at EleMentals are trying to make The Mobility Companion extremely comfortable and most efficient in all ways. These links helped us with our research.

Our Ideating Phase:

Prototyping for the Mobility Companion has started and the 1st draft is on the way! We will be testing this prototype tomorrow to work out the kinks

The First Prototype is on its way!
Hard work in progress

Final Draft: The Mobility Companion is ready to go!

Second idea:

The EleMentals are going to steal the show with their amazing second idea.

Second Issue: This issue is a worldwide issue, the lack of energy or the limitation of fuel to provide us with the energy needed. The rate at which we use energy is significantly higher than what we produce. Also we do not create any free energy.

Our Solution: Our solution to this issue is work in progress and in no way solves the big energy issue but is a start to gain back some of the wasted energy in our daily life to better conserve the existing energy and recycle. Our solution is a tile to walk on or a shoe made out of piezoelectric sensors that can generate electricity from mechanical stress allowing us to gain back lots of the energy that we waste. Currently we are having a sight hiccup with the circuitry but the idea is on its way!

Working hard on a second idea

Final Idea on D Day!

Multi-utility chopping board

· Chop, grate and peal with just one hand

· Apt height with the elevation

· Inbuilt container for all 3 purposes

· Vacuum suction cups will prevent it to move

· Grater is attachable and detachable

· The needles attached have different sizes and distances for different foods

· Needles will replace the other hand

· The needles are also detachable to make it child friendly

· Needles are made of stainless steel

Sci-Fi

· We wanted the peeling nails to be adjusted to which ever angle the user wishes to

· We could have also added a slicer

Mobility companion

· Help amputees to cycle

· Compatible in a normal cycle

· Attachable and detachable

· Less cost

· Works as a physiotherapy

· The body is attached to the pivot for ease of movement

· The cup is comfortable

· Length can be adjusted

Sci-Fi

· We were thinking to upgrade it for the people who have paralysed or partially paralysed their legs. So we can have follow hemispheric pipes so the users can place their leg there and a strap can fix their legs. The rest will be similar to our design. This will help them exercise their muscles as well.

· We were also thinking of adding a artificial knee for those who are amputees above

· Use it for 2 legs

Update of D Day! — 12:00pm

The crowd is just isnt stopping! After our energetic and kick ass pitch to the keystage I think the judges are impressed already! We entered with a roar, by chanting our group name for the first minimum 30 seconds and the entire keystage seemed overwhelmed!! We introduced our idea to them and we already seemed to have an advantage because we were the only group having 2 ideas. We mainly emphasized on our Unique Selling Point which is that none of the users have to buy anything new to use our product. Our product is an add on to all the existing equipment that the users have.

Talking about the cycle, it can be attached and detached with any normal cycle and also our chopping board, it is an add on to the normal platform of the kitchen

We also talked about how we catered the client and what kind of client we have chosen. One of the ideas had to be for Roli ma’am because we were actually inspired by how she shared the kind of problem she has to face and even something as small as only tying her hair was a huge challenge for her and so she chose to keep her hair short. And so one of our ideas, about the multi-utility chopping board, does cater to her as she loves cooking!

Now its been over 2 hours since the actual exhibition has started and the crowd at our stall is just incessant. One after the other, parents, jury, students, everyone! The crowd is definitely not what we had expected!

We have got a lot of feedback too! One of them was about the material we used, wasnt apt for the chopping board. We used wood for the prototype, but wood and water definitely do go well together.

Secondly, we should have also kept our grater inclined to the board so that it is easier to attach and remove and also it will make all of grated food fall directly in the bowl and not other wise!

Overall the jury seemed please because we were successfully bale to solve alot of problems!

Looking forward for more feedback! Seems a really tough competition this time. We went to see a alot of other ideas and they too seemed really creative and innovative! We hope for the best! really liked alot of idea, hats off for the effort put by Grade 8,9 and 10. If you are reading this blog in our school then please come to our stall and vote for us!!!! Go eleMentals!!!!!
