#RisingYouth celebrates 7,000 grants awarded, shares expertise on International Youth Day

Catalyzing transformation for a better world through technology

August 12th, 2022 — International Youth Day — New York City

The #RisingYouth team at TakingITGlobal is proud to be one of the featured programs invited to share expertise in promoting inclusion at the Youth Assembly being held at the United Nations and Convene in New York City. For its 27th Session with the theme “Dare to Reshape the World”, the Youth Assembly invited #RisingYouth to highlight the program’s accomplishments on a panel related to the theme of using technology to empower young people and help them become agents of positive change in their local and global communities.

For over 18 years, the Youth Assembly has empowered youth to become the leaders and changemakers who will strive to create a world free of oppression, exclusion, and poverty. Through a worldwide network and programs, it harnesses the power of friendship as a catalyst for greater understanding and sustainable action. As Loizza Aquino, #RisingYouth’s Manager of Grants Administration explains “It is very exciting to be part of this event, the first in-person Youth Assembly since the pandemic. It is a great opportunity for #RisingYouth to emphasize the impact of microgrants in the field of social change and put a spotlight on our grantees who have used them to contribute to the progression of the sustainable development goals.”

TakingITGlobal is thankful for the opportunity to join forces and support the next generation of active global citizens and benefit from one of the world’s largest youth events focused on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. “There are so many valuable networks that we can make with youth across the world to share the work that we do, while also learning about the experiences that other youth have had throughout their journey of mobilizing change in their communities,” Aquino adds.

The Youth Assembly brings together about 700 young leaders ages 18–32 from over 100 countries working for social good and sustainable development from the grassroots to the international level. The Youth Assembly is the flagship conference of the AFS Intercultural Programs, which has been supporting youth leadership in addressing global challenges for over 100 years. In addition to the technology panel, TakingITGlobal is hosting an exhibit in the Opportunities Fair hosted by #RisingYouth Team Lead Amira Bahmed, where participants will be invited to reflect on transforming their passions into projects with inspiration from many Alumni featured in the photo display. On Sunday, August 17th, TakingITGlobal is sponsoring the Networking Reception where TakingITGlobal’s Co-Founder and Executive Director Jennifer Corriero will be delivering remarks on the theme Mobilizing Millions for Micro Grants.

#RisingYouth is a program led by TakingITGlobal to help youth build Canada and develop life skills by giving back to their communities. #RisingYouth is funded by the Government of Canada under the Canada Service Corps.

TakingITGlobal empowers youth to understand and act on local and global challenges. Since the organization’s launch in 2000, TakingITGlobal’s Digital Youth Engagement programs have engaged more than 50 million people to learn, grow and realize their potential.
