Undoubtedly, a product with a good product photo is more likely to get attention. An eye catching product image increases the chances of conversions.

How to take quality product photos?

Your product picture is the first thing which pushes your customer to check it out in depth. If you want to take quality product photos, here are some tips for you.

  • Smartphone or Digital Camera:

Wait! Don’t go for a digital camera unnecessarily. Undoubtedly, a digital camera is better than a smartphone camera, but if you think that your smartphone has all the necessary features, then why go for a DSLR!

Make sure that your smartphone has all those features (dual-lens camera, wide aperture, optical image stabilization, and auto-detection flash, etc) which are required to click a good picture. This will save you from extra expenses. If you are going for a digital camera, look out for the features like autofocus, digital zoom, aperture priority, and burst mode, etc.

  • Stability:

Stability of your camera plays an important role in photography. You must use a tripod to avoid clicking blur pictures. It will help you to stabilize your camera and you will be able to take high quality pictures of the products

  • Never Ignore Lighting:

Appropriate background and lighting effects are the key factors for taking quality product photos. When it comes to lighting, we have two options:

  • Natural lighting
  • Artificial lighting

Natural lighting is always the best if it suits your product and you’re ready to work with the sun. For natural lighting, you have to make outdoor arrangements or arrangements near the window.

Make sure that the things are adjustable, because it is not possible for you to get the light of the same intensity throughout your work. If the light is highly intense, you can use a curtain or a sheet to cover your window so that it can diffuse the light and you can get the effects you need.

When natural light doesn’t work for you, go for artificial light. Make sure to arrange them properly. Key light (standard three point lighting), back light (form of illumination used in LCDs) and filling light (a typical three-point lighting setup with a shoulder or back-side lamp ), all play an important role in product photography.

Here is one simple technique to obtain different lighting effects :

Take a shoe box and make a hole in the center. Place a bulb there and make connections. Cover the open side of the box with a fine and thin white sheet. Now change the lighting effects by changing the sheets. You can use sheets of different colors for different kinds of effects.

  • Background:

White background is always the best choice or you can also choose a background that matches your product. For example, if your product is something like cookware or utensils, the kitchen will be a perfect place. Garden or green background is a good choice for products such as flower pots.

Even if you are unable to find a perfect background, white background would do.

You have to keep the following things in mind while preparing for the background setup.

Many people may choose a white wall as a background. But for good pictures, you must go for a white sheet or something like that which you can adjust according to your needs.

Always be careful about the shape and size of your product, only then you would be able to decide the background size.

If you are using a sheet, you have to make sure that it remains stable throughout the process. You can use tape, hangers or clips.

  • Get Ready to Click

All done! Now you are ready to click quality pictures of the product. Keep in mind that you don’t have to click a picture, but pictures. Yes! You have to click multiple pictures from different angles and then choose the best one or two.

Consider the following things

  • Make the picture eye catching

You are going to take a picture of a specific product, but it doesn’t mean that you can’t show any other item in your picture. You can use different items to make your picture extra special.

For example, if you are going to click a picture of a perfume bottle, then you can use some flowers like roses to make it look interesting. You can use some food items while clicking a picture of any kitchenware. It depends on the product and your choice.

  • Show the details of the product

If you present only one or two images of your product, it won’t be enough to win the confidence of a visitor. We always dig deeper to choose the best. One standard picture doesn’t tell much about the product. Try showing it from different angles.

This becomes more essential with the products having different features. When the products are presented in this manner, this will indirectly benefit the manufacturers also. People will come to know and understand their product better than before.
