Once someone knows they can actually make it work, now let’s talk about the actual mechanisms of the application.

Test your form: If you are using an online form, try applying yourself on different browsers and see if you hit any snags or bugs when you try to submit.

Autosave us all: If your form doesn’t automatically save, tell people upfront in a paragraph (or sentence) before the application and encourage them to write their answers using software that does (Google docs, Evernote, email drafts, Word) so they don’t lose all their work mid-way if something goes wrong

Allow alternatives: If your form is hard to use on slow internet connections, or doesn’t have a mobile version, consider also accepting submissions by email.

Examine your requirements: Are your word limits reasonable? How about your file-size limits? If you can, allow images in any file format since people don’t always have the tools or know how to convert from one format to another. Or, the pain point of creative of having to always resize images for each application.
