What’s in an ETF?

There are literally thousands of different ETFs available, covering many different asset classes including property, shares, infrastructure, and bonds for example.

A single ETF however typically only contains one investment class.

You can invest in an ETF which mirrors an entire stock exchange like the Dow Jones in the US. You can also invest in ETFs that track certain sectors such as technology or financials, currencies like the US Dollar, government bonds, property or different commodities for example.

In short, ETFs closely track the overall performance of whatever asset they contain but are traded just like a stock, meaning their price fluctuates in real time.
