The Price of Doing Nothing

The price of doing nothing

Is a price that’s paid in lives.

Bloody mothers, holding children

Too late now for goodbyes.

The price of doing nothing

Is paid with hatred in the streets.

Another cop kills a man

On his neighborhood beat

The news man says it’s bleak,

The news man turns his seat,

A new segment starts

On summer theme parks

While the kids play by the creek.

The price of doing nothing

Is paid for in lost love.

Prayers to one up above,

Prayers turn to shove,

Prayers don’t do shit

But keep the world turning

Long enough for another to bite the bit.

The price of doing nothing

Is one we needn’t pay.

We can do something now,

Kill the golden cow,

And tomorrow?

Tomorrow will be a better day.

The price of doing nothing

Is weighing me down

And my pockets come up empty.

I hear them ask

What can we do now?

I whisper one word,

“Plenty.”
