The Lama’s Gifts

With the lama having come and gone, the village has gone from night to day. The positivity and hope the lama has left us with is amazing. He gave protective amulets to our ritualists, donated funds and resources for a printing press and library at the nunnery, donated funds for a medicine factory, held public rituals and also had a private audience with those who donated most to his visit.

All in all, it was a wonderfully beneficial and enlightening experience for everyone. I am most excited about the library in the nunnery as well as the protective amulets. Some may have been upset that perhaps the protective amulets should have been given to everyone rather than just the ritualists but upon reflection, it makes the most sense for them to have it.

They understand the six tantric rites (shanti, vashikarama, stambhana, vidvesana, uccatana and marana) and in which situation they should be used, when the rites are to be performed, how to recite these rites, which accompanying materials need to be present, and the mudras that must be made in order to make these charms effective. I only know of these through the texts I have read on the subject and am grateful we have people in our village who immerse themselves in this practice as it is quite complicated and can go sour very quickly. That’s why it makes most sense that those who dedicate all their energies to be responsible for something as important as a protective amulet. I have faith that the village will be adequately protected with these amulets in the hands of our ritualists.

As for the new nunnery library, our Village Yak says that it is the first nunnery library in our region! I would very much like to be involved in the development of this new library as learning and reading are my passion. It will give me something to do while my husband is away and my children are in school.

I also met my neighbors today for the first time after we moved. The storm caused too much irreparable damage to our cave dwelling — staying was simply out of the question. We are now in the Realm of Space which is, in fact, closer to the center of the village and to other villagers as well. So far, I have met Lynda P. and Hannah. They seem like very nice neighbors and I look forward to getting to know them better as time passes. Perhaps they have children as well for mine to play with.

There is a meeting for the village in the next few days about how we are going to organize the funds and resources donated to us for our new medicine factory and library/printing press. Everyone seems greatly excited — I feel as if I’m living in a whole new village!
