Singular EVM Release
We are delighted to announce that Singular EVM will be released on Monday, 5th June. We have worked for over a year towards this milestone and are happy that we finally get to show the community what we’ve been harping about for a while now.
What is Singular EVM?
Singular EVM is a new version of RMRK’s advanced NFT marketplace purpose-built for the Ethereum Virtual Machine, making it compatible with any EVM-based blockchain (layer-1 and layer-2).
Where will it launch?
Singular on EVM will first launch on Moonbeam, the EVM-compatible parachain on Polkadot. The plan is to deploy the new Singular on as many high-value EVM chains as possible, so expect more networks to be added in future.
What will be possible upon launch?
Most actions that are possible with current version Singular and some new ones:
- Minting and trading of Nestable and Multi-Asset NFTs (old)
- Minting of Soulbound NFTs (new)
- Fair royalty distribution (new)
- GBM auctions (new)
What does this mean for the old version of Singular?
The current version of Singular is deployed on Kusama and will be deprecated (closed down) in 4–6 months. To understand more about this, read this article. The reasons we are choosing to prioritize Singular on EVM are:
- Expanding reach + community — presently, over 80% of all NFT activity happens on Ethereum and its layer 2s. We have put a lot of effort towards building a thriving NFT ecosystem in Polkadot and do not regret it. We have tested our products in the battlegrounds of Kusama and lived true to its nature–creating chaos. Our adoption of EVM is a necessary step towards growing the Singular user base. Furthermore, everything we seek to achieve with RMRK (Skybreach metaverse, advanced NFT marketplace, etc.) requires as active a community as we can find/create. This means not relying on only one ecosystem. While the community in Polkadot is great (hence why we aren’t exactly leaving), the opportunities offered by the vibrant community on Ethereum cannot be ignored.
- Programmability — the programmability of EVM smart contracts means it is easier for us to build out the products our community has been longing for. With Singular EVM live, further progress can be made on Singular (i.e. auctions) that was not easily possible with Singular v2.
- Ecosystem expansion — because the bulk of the NFT community exists on Ethereum/EVM, Singular EVM will usher in a new wave of adoption for RMRK’s advanced NFT protocol. This means new projects (PFPs, games, metaverses, etc.) using the RMRK standards.
What does the future hold for Singular?
Upgrades. More upgrades. Many more upgrades. We intend to improve upon Singular until it is the best and easiest to use advanced NFT marketplace in Web3. Planned for the future (with no timelines set yet) are:
- In-marketplace chats
- New and improved user interface
- Emotable NFTs
- Offers
- Account linking
- And more
