Road Less Travelled
2 min readJul 17, 2024

Last week I met Gangadhar Krishnan. I have been following and reading his Linkedin posts from sometime. He has taken a very interesting trajectory in life by organizing curated tours to the North east India after resigning from a well set career. His entire family and kids are also part of this. He has done 90 days road trips! So you can imagine how many interesting stories he will have to tell. I pinged him on Linkedin to meet if he is ever in Bangalore. He replied that he is the next weekend. I setup time to meet with him at MG Road.

When I met him he was in Indian attire of dhoti and shirt. He immediately gave a vibe of calmness. Mr. Gangadhar Krishnan’s approach to unschooling and travel impressed me greatly. His conviction in the value of experiential learning and his trust in his children’s ability to thrive in this environment were truly inspiring. He faced challenges, like societal disapproval and financial difficulties, but his belief in his path and his commitment to his family shone through.

Gangadhar Krishnan, his wife Ramya Lakshminath and their twin daughters Amulya and Ananya love to travel. Believing in experiential learning, the couple decided to homeschool their daughters and take it a step further with road schooling — learning through travel. They prefer unplanned trips, figuring out their route each day and avoiding too much research to keep surprises alive. Their recent adventure covered 13,000 km in a yellow Nano, travelling from Hyderabad to Northeast India and even crossing international borders to Nepal and Bhutan. The girls learned life skills, languages, geography, and more through real-world experiences.

His confidence that there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to education, and the importance of prioritizing time with children resonated deeply. His story reminds us to follow our own path and create the life we believe is best for our families. In a world that often values possessions over experiences, the Krishnan family’s adventures show that true happiness can be found on the open road, learning and growing together.
