Roaring Rivers

Torrents, currents, and ripples by Christyl Rivers, PhD.

Christ’s light in a dim and deranged world

His first name is Robert, so I hope he has enough sense of humor that he could chuckle at the informality of “Pope Bob.” He is after all, an every-man, or at least, the closest we can come to recognizing all humanity in one man who is handed all the empathy for men, women, people of color, impoverished, excluded, and imprisoned.

Christ, the Christyl Light for which I am named (Although I am more Rivers than light.) Christ without the Y — was a figure who didn’t represent just kings, priests, and emperors. Jesus Christ welcomed all. JC was the first DEI Christian evangelist.

The calling of Pope Leo XIV answers prayers from devout and atheists alike. He is everything Trump/Vance/MAGA is not. He wasn’t always in the clergy, so one assumes he dated women once upon a time. He didn’t just creep on them, harass or assault, use them as gaudy props, or sue like a sewer does.
