After driving a total of 27 hours from Hamilton, ON, we finally reached Miami. Took us five days but we actually did it.

It was now time to reconnect with our vendors and make any final adjustments to our arrangements. The first of which was Jessica’s hair and makeup stylist who trialed the look she’d use for the wedding. Jess was clever to schedule this appointment only hours before we met with our photographer for our engagement photo shoot.

Our photographer Melissa Perez from SimplyCaptivating helped us narrow down some great locations and did an amazing job in capturing us. Here are some of my favourites.

The second day consisted of reviewing our floral samples and linen selections, tasting various flavours of cake (we ended up going with Pina Colada!) and meeting our officiant as we ironed out the speeches.

Between meetings, we explored this beautiful outdoor mall that was filled with luscious plants and palm trees. Known as the Shops at Merrick Park, this was clearly a high-class shopping destination. Fountains, airy lounges, and even some outdoor escalators! Such an open mall design is not something that could work back in Canada.

The third day we tasted all three dish options we were serving (chicken, salmon, and veggie) as well as cocktails and desserts. All of the food was phenomenal and solidified my confidence with the catering. I’m convinced that our guests will be blown away with our selections.

We spent time walking up and down the boardwalk and familiarizing ourselves with nearby amenities and late night activities. We also discovered that there’s a free bus that shuttles passengers up and down Collins Avenue — the main street in Miami Beach. Good to know!

At this point, all of our key vendors had been spoken to and our plans felt very comprehensive.

With the insane humidity and temperature in the low 30s, it was time for a dip in the pool! Despite not staying the night at The Palms Hotel & Spa (where the ceremony and reception is taking place), the hotel provided us with pool passes for the day which we took full advantage of. I just love the pool and ambiance at this hotel and any chance I get to be here I take.

Having gone through our checklist, it would appear that all of our questions, concerns and details have been meticulously reviewed and it’s now time to ride out the final few months until the wedding in December! Here we go!
