Second edition after such an outpouring of comments (not really) here are some links I found interesting this week — Instagram Stories, you heard? Yeah. Everyone has.
- So, big week in social and digital this week, biggest news story by far and away is Instagram Stories which is live now on Instagram if you update it on iOS at least. In essence it’s Snapchat stories with literally no twists. Full video and update here: http://blog.instagram.com/post/148348940287/160802-stories
- If you’re interested I tweeted some updates on it this morning — screenshot above— basically; Easier discovery than Snapchat, instantly more glossy than Snapchat and people will have tons of people already using it because they have a follower base: Tweets here in a curated feed: https://storify.com/rktweets/thoughts-on-instagram-stories#publicize
- Facebook continues to make history this time first time two teams from the Premier League are on Facebook Live: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36960270 — what is interesting here isn’t the Live element or the content IMO but as more big things happen on Facebook that are either Live or a ‘sit down moment’ then more likely people will see Facebook as a destination to view long form content
- More on Facebook, their Facebook ad revenue +63% this year, New York Times ad revenue during the same time -12%. New media huh.
- Olympics is here, here are the banned words no one can use because they’re only allowed to be used by official sponsors. Sure, that’s the Olympic Spirit: http://www.adweek.com/news/advertising-branding/here-are-many-many-ways-your-business-can-get-trouble-tweeting-olympics-172699
- Stranger Things is the best thing on TV (that isn’t on Sky obvs),at the moment — watch it. Reddit is here — with almost zero promotion and a cast of mainly unknowns. https://www.reddit.com/r/StrangerThings/ though this did come to mind to me while watching, pretty niche: http://motherboard.vice.com/read/is-reddits-creepy-9mother9horse9eyes9-a-netflix-marketing-stunt-flesh-interfaces
- Bit of Snapchat video advertising too: http://thenextweb.com/socialmedia/2016/07/29/the-big-flip-how-snapchat-reoriented-video-advertising/
Nice bitesize one this week, please forward to anyone I missed or may be interested. See you next week. Same place. Same time, ish. Hope it was useful!
And finally, are you looking for a job? Do you know someone who is? Well, come and work in my team as a Project Manager on Digital and Social projects. You’d be working with me directly (it’s good, honest) and on some of the best TV shows around — you’ll be able to watch them/read them early too ;) — apply here
