What is RedManta?

RedManta LLC is a game studio geared towards creating awesome games on the Roblox platform. RedManta started developing Robloxian Highschool back in 2016 when we were interns at Roblox over the summer. At this point it was a hobby project, but over the course of the next year we turned it into a smash hit. We were pursuing another summer internship at Roblox during this time, at which point we decided to work on game development full time. A few months later, in the beginning of 2018, RedManta LLC was formed.

What are some of the best ways to monetize your game?

In my opinion one of the best ways to monetize your game is to sell vanity items. This is a great strategy because it has little to no effect on the core game loop so you don’t necessarily need to compromise the integrity of your game in order to generate revenue.

This option is more or less effective depending on your style of game but in social or rpg style games, where you’re always playing the same avatar, we’ve had great success with them.

How did you go about forming a corporation?

To form a corporation we did a lot of research and hired a legal firm to set it up for us to ensure everything was done properly.

How do you select your teams or contractors?

For selecting team members we look for talented people that are passionate about our projects and the Roblox platform.

There are an increasing amount of people with the required skill sets so we’re careful to look for individuals who really stand out to us and we feel would work and communicate well in a team.

What are some challenges of owning a Roblox game studio?

One challenge of owning a game studio developing on the Roblox platform is that since it is still a newer / emerging platform, it’s difficult to find people locally available with the skills you need.

This often means hiring remote contractors which can pose a lot of challenges for communication. Working remotely means people aren’t forced to communicate just by being in a work environment and sometimes you need to push people to collaborate more.

What are some great UI practices to keep in mind?

A practice we try to follow is making ui that compliments the game world rather than draws attention from it.

This can be both in terms of size, shape or color. For example if you have a vey monotone game level but your ui uses many colors it will look out of place.
