Building your business on Roblox has become a popular topic in the developer community! Both RDC US and EU this year have a track dedicated to Business, and more developers are turning their Roblox skills into a career than ever before.

As a part of building your business using Roblox skills, developers often turn their attention to making money from their game. Developers that are expanding their Roblox careers by building development studios, paying for advertisements, working with Youtubers and even renting their own office space, have learned to monetize their Roblox games in a way that allows them to fund other ventures that lead to them being more productive. Monetizing your games can also help developers build highly-skilled developer teams, and hire members of their team who will boost their games even higher.

There are a number of Roblox developers who have independently found ways to monetize their game and create a career from their learnings on Roblox, such as AlexNewtron who developed MeepCity, and Coeptus, who developed Welcome to Bloxburg. There are also many developers who work together to form a development studio, and ship games together. Sharksie and AbstractAlex worked together to form Red Manta, Blockfacebob and BlockfaceSteve created BlockEvolution Studios, and asimo3089 and badcc teamed up to create Badimo and ship Jailbreak. BlockEvolution Studios and Red Manta Studios have recently moved into new offices, where they’ll focus on developing full time!

Whether you set out to develop a game for monetization, or you choose to monetize an existing game, monetization takes some planning. Following the RDC US 2018 monetization panel, almost all of the developers who have taken their Roblox development career to the next level give one unanimous piece of advice: have a plan for monetization, and if you can develop with this plan in mind, monetizing your game will be much easier in the future.

To make this planning easier, BSlick put together a song about monetizing your games on the Roblox platform. Take a listen and tell us what you think of the advice he’s giving:

Keep an eye on the Developer Relations Medium publication; we’ll be back soon with some examples of how to monetize your game, overviews of the monetization panel at RDC, and tutorials on in-game monetization options.
