Game Review: SHRED
SHRED brings an almost-forgotten game genre back into the limelight: snow sports. As a child, having games on my mac such as Drop Point: Alaska (another snowboarding game) brought me hours of entertainment, and playing SHRED brought out the nostalgia.
Gameplay
From what I remember playing Drop Point: Alaska I can definitively say this game is much more fun. To play, you take the ski lift up to the mountain you buy a pass for. You can buy ski passes, boards, and more in-game purchases with coins you earn completing obstacles and tricks on the slopes. The controls are simple and there are many trick combinations to challenge yourself.
My favorite feature is the different slopes you can access. As you rank up by earning coins and XP, you are able to snowboard down more difficult slopes. This keeps the game interesting and challenging for more experienced players.
In order to understand the beauty and slick gameplay of SHRED, you need to play it. The thrill of barreling down a mountain slope and catching sick jumps will keep you enthralled with the snowy mountains that define this game.
Verdict
This game should be played by everyone at least once. While the theme is fairly niche, SHRED brings high quality gameplay with easy-to-use controls and gnarly stunts. Our verdict for SHRED is an 8 out of 10.
