My first insights into Robotics Process Automation (RPA) and the dynamic team behind Roborana.

The first 2 weeks of my 12-week internship was a blast. I achieved my first certificate from UiPath, played football and built my first RPA bot.

Let me introduce myself: I’m Tim Vangilbergen, 23 years old, I study Applied Computer Science in my final year. And at the moment, I’m doing an internship at Roborana.

I’m ‘a millennial’, as the RPA specialists here refer to me as an almost graduate.

The first week I immediately started an RPA crash course, more specific UiPath. During this course, I had the full support of my team, this gave me the time to get to know each team member. And even when the team is not together, we are connected using Slack. That’s a digital workspace where you can communicate with your team members and it’s possible to make use of some powerful tools.

At the end of the week, I successfully ended the course and I received my first UiPath certificate!

The Roborana team

Mathias, the driving force behind Roborana, makes me feel a real part of the team. He invites me to team meetings and when he’s thinking about a new tool to enhance the RPA experience, he even invites me to a Proof of Concept (PoC) and asks for my opinion.

I also went to an information session for a potential client, presented by Arnout. It was his first presentation for Roborana, and he did a fantastic job.
Wim, RPA solutions architect and my mentor, guides me through this adventure. He can put me on solid ground when I’m in overdrive with my youthful enthusiasm.

Robotic Process Automation WHAT ?

I know it sounds like the future and yes, I can confirm it is. RPA means automation of business processes across the enterprise using software robots, which are easy to train and integrate seamlessly into any system. It is mostly designed to perform repetitive tasks. For example, it can be used for logging into applications, entering data, calculating and completing tasks, and logging out.

It’s a technology that is on top of your IT-infrastructure because of its flexibility. You can easily implement it without changing the existing infrastructure and systems.

The strength of this technology comes from the integration with artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). If you want to learn more about RPA, just visit the Roborana website.

Conclusion

These have been very interesting and educational weeks for me so far. I’m very thankful to be part of this team. I’ve chosen Roborana for an internship because of my interest in new technologies.

Everyone is talking about artificial intelligence and machine learning, but they often tend to forget RPA, which could make use of both. Also important are the tools that come with this technology: UiPath and BluePrism for example, tools that perfectly fit my technical background as a computer scientist.

RPA is a technology with many possibilities, I’m looking forward to being part of this adventure.
