Since the word “Robotics” has been the trending and booming word, every person who has subtle knowledge about technology can easily hit it off. Words like robots, robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Data Science are becoming more neighbourly, these fields and topics are challenging to understand but these can be related in our daily life easily.

Let us start going through the surface of the topic robotics first. The term Robotics is defined as “An inter-disciplinary research area with Computer Science and Engineering as an interface”. The field robotics involves many streams of study irrespective to the field. Product Design, Technological Studies, Manufacturing, Programming, Algorithms, Information Processing and many more. Each topic is present in apparent fields which are not even related. That is the major reason Robotics is called an interdisciplinary subject. The Supremacy of international businesses is streaming on Robots and their applications. Every element that is present in nature have pros and cons, likewise, it infers to every topic. These are the pros and cons that I have got to know in my research.

Pros and Cons of Robotics:

Pros of Robotics:

Ø Benefits in Business: Robots are gaudily used in the Business field. A single robot rooted with Artificial Intelligence and trained according to the business need that would be as good as two human beings employed physically. Mechanisms involved in robotics are trained to be highly accurate and precise, there will be hardly any flaws in them. This will be a spike to the business.

Ø Higher productivity: According to the Bureau of Labour statics an average person works 8.8 hours in a day productively. But this wouldn’t be the constraint to robots. Because robots do not goof around. If any robot steps into miscalculation then it is the mistake of the person who gave input. Robots are the name for perfection. They can be productive all day and every day.

Ø Safety: Utilising robots in manufacturing step will be an expedient step since there will be many physical, strenuous and monotonous tasks that are lacklustre for human beings. Using robots in the fabrication of products bring rise to utmost safety because they are fed with instructions that can’t go wrong and have been built with chief accuracy rate. They can be very feasible so that they can be trusted one hundred per cent.

Ø Automation: The main reasons that robots are used in industries is because they can carry out automated tasks commendably. Robots and Automation are very related and that stemmed into a new field of study called RPA (Robotic Process Automation). It will be entertaining that a robot is trained to process the daily routine tasks and get automated over and over with just our instructions, this can be achieved by RPA. RPA is meant for human-driven tasks, it is a software that reduces the effort of human. RPA is a subpart in Artificial Intelligence, it took over many of the industrial work and made it easier by simple automation.

Cons of Robotics:

ü Jobs at Stake: There is a misconception that if robots come into the limelight, many workers may lose their jobs. This was an opinion and mainly misconception that every human being had. The answer for that is yes, Robots take over the jobs of the tasks those are monotonous, physical, but it also increases jobs to 14% every year but 37% people are afraid that robots might grab their jobs. Robots take away jobs from unskilled people like repetitive tasks, etc. But this field employs many skilled employees. Like to design a critical robot we need a person to design a layout, get the required parts and components, developing the model and many more. Each task mentioned above requires a set of team players. If you are more interested in the jobs that robots are going to take away, reach out my previous blog “What Kind of jobs that robots take from Humans in Future.”

ü Programming Restrictions: A robot is nothing but a set of highly complex programs (set of instructions) that enacts how to work. But these set of programs may be fruitful for some conditions but it is not applicable every time. There will be constraints and situations that robot should “think out of the box” and the algorithm doesn’t support that. Then the present trending terminology like Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning comes into operation. These enable the robot to work both monotonously and autonomously.

ü Cost: Have you ever gave a thought about how much does it costs to build a robot? It spares nearly $50,000 to $80,000 for a basic bot. It might spike up to $500,000 too. Cost is a constraint everywhere, we need to optimise that. Robots not only require exalted technical skills but also a huge amount to build.
