SPEYER, Germany (2015–2018)
Hitachi and the city of Speyer, Germany, worked together to develop a smart community with support from NEDO, a Japanese technology agency. Robotina was also heavily involved in the project.
Our experts designed and implemented a control system, machine learning, and cloud software for the smart community. The project’s system consisted of a solar power plant, battery storage units, and our own Energy Management System (EMS).
Installed EMS devices use machine learning and AI to predict the energy consumption of each apartment from three energy sources: the solar power plant, the grid, and the district’s heating system. EMS devices continuously collect and analyze consumption data to help minimize energy costs.
As a result, participants in the smart community enjoy the lowest possible expenses without any decline in comfort in their homes.
NEDO SMART GRID PROJECT, Slovenia (2017–2018)
This project is the perfect demonstration of how effective smart grids can be. As part of the project, Robotina integrated our Home Energy Management Systems (HEMS) into selected apartments and houses.
HEMS synchronizes with critical peak information and automatically lowers the household’s electricity consumption to the minimum required for full comfort.
The system forecasts the consumption of each selected grid segment for the following day. If it’s forecast that the grid won’t be able to deliver enough power, a critical peak tariff is activated for a certain period of time, motivating users to reduce their consumption.
Residents have the advantage of adopting a dynamic tariff without having to sacrifice their comfort or safety.
ENERGIE GRAZ, Austria (2018)
New energy regulations in Austria promote the installation of renewable energy sources in residential buildings. Construction companies now have better incentives to invest in rooftop photovoltaic plants and battery storage systems, which allow residents to use eco-friendly energy.
Based on our standard HEMS device, Robotina tailored a solution that sends accurate, real-time information about the consumption of each implemented energy source (PV, battery, grid etc.) to the provider. This model proved very effective, and is certain to become a popular method of transitioning to renewable energy sources in Austria.
ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEMS, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, South Africa (2016 — present)
Our energy storage and management system — eSTORE — helps thousands of users reduce their energy expenses and increase their autonomy. Solar panels owners generate their own energy, but are often unable to consume all of it, so they have no other option but to sell it to utility companies for whatever price they can get.
Payments for this energy are minimal — usually several times lower than retail energy prices. Even more frustratingly, users who sell that energy are often forced to buy it back from the same company later.
With our smart energy storage system and HEMS, users can store their green energy in eSTORE and use it when they need it. In addition, HEMS controls their energy flow and optimizes it to generate savings.
