Did 2016 punch you in the face?

I posted a thing yesterday about 2017 implying that I’m looking forward to it and I think we all have this sense that 2016 was not a great year.

But you know, maybe this year was meant to teach us stuff about ourselves and our place in the world. Maybe life is meant to throw us a few curve balls every now and then. Crush us a bit. Chew us up and spit us out.

As one of my favourite poets – Rocky Balboa – says, ‘life ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward; how much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done!’

Things could always be a lot worse. Just ask your grandparents. We are living in one of the best periods in human history. If you take all the punches that 2016 landed on your face, and I’m betting there have been a few, and learn what they all meant and how you coped and grew from them, then I’m sure we will all crush 2017.

A single golf clap? Or a long standing ovation?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
