As some of you may not know what psychedelic movement is will ask the question, “What is the Psychedelic Movement and how does it affect rock and roll artists”? To start off, the Psychedelic Movement is where people (specifically rock and occurred during the 1960’s to express their feelings and thoughts about gender norms and lifestyles that someone is “supposed to have”. I think that this is a really interesting form of music mainly because using this type of music would reject the roles that everyone is supposed to have. With the action of playing this type of music, this can help bring equality for everyone.

Not only did the psychedelic movement involve counterculture, but it also involved specific drugs that would expand a rock and roll artists’ creativity when writing a song and also playing an instrument. The main drug that was used during the psychedelic movement is called LSD, also known as Lysergic acid diethylamide. LSD is a drug that causes hallucinogens and can make people see things differently than normal people do. Rock and Roll music artists such as Jimi Hendrix would use this drug.

Jimi Hendrix is one of the most popular rock and roll artists back in the 1960’s. He was most popular for his single, “Purple Haze”. Expectedly, Hendrix used the LSD drug to create this song. This song is still played by many rock and roll fans today, including me. Unfortunately, he passed away after four years of his music career.

Another popular Rock and Roll artist/band that participated in the psychedelic movement is the band called “The Beatles”. The Beatles had the members John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Richard Starkey. They also used the drug that was commonly taken, LSD. Their song that they created with using LSD is called “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” created in 1967.

To summarize, all of the psychedelia movement impacted the American culture significantly. This is because of the spirituality that LSD can give these artists to have a more creative mind when writing and/or playing music. It is also important to keep in mind to never use drugs. It is true that these artists/bands did make the best music during the rock and roll era, they also did start to have addictions to the drug which can lead to many potential health related issues such as heart disease. Even still, these artists/bands were a few of the psycheldelic movement that made a huge impact for the American culture.
