A quick stream-of-consciousness anecdote…

Awhile ago, I was listening to Deep Purple’s excellent Come Taste The Band album and thought to myself: “you know what, the Mark IV lineup was one of Deep Purple’s best.”

Then, after pondering that particular thought for a few moments, I thought to myself: “you know what, I should have a place somewhere on the Internet—let’s call it a blog for all intents and purposes—where I can let it be known that yes, in fact, Deep Purple’s Mark IV lineup rules.”

Then, after pondering the thought that I had been pondering, I thought to myself: “you know what, not only does Deep Purple’s Mark IV lineup rule, but my taste in music is impeccable and, damnit, people deserve to be subjected to it!”

Honestly, I’ve always thought the word “blog” was a dirty, pretentious word, but year in and year out I always seem to find new bands or albums that blow me away, yet nobody seems to be talking about. I see friends, family and colleagues bitch and moan about the lack of good bands, or about how rock music “just isn’t the same anymore”. I see bands like the Foo Fighters and—well, the Foo Fighters paraded around the Grammys, Oscars, mainstream talk shows and magazines as the last bastion of rock and roll—the default band to tap when the “rock” genre needs to be represented, for some reason. And, it frankly pisses me off.

So, I figured I’d write about these bands—I’ll review albums I want to listen to, write about bands that I think are the best, and make my own end-of-the-year lists. Now, instead of firing off a batch of names every time someone bitches to me about the state of rock music, I can kindly say to them—“check out my blog, bro.”

Enjoy.
