Five Haunting Songs for the Spooky Season
A Halloween Rate-A-Record
Since I took up the madness that is Rate-A-Record a few years ago, I have used the month of October for tunes that fit the season. I’ll typically wait until at least mid-month in order to be past the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary (which is today, so get praying) and Columbus Day (which is the only holiday left for Italians and falls on the 13th this year), and waiting has the added benefit of temps here in Texas finally falling below the mid-90s. I’m not waiting this year, however.
The most recent weather forecast shows us hitting at least the high 80s for the foreseeable future, so waiting on actual autumnal temperatures is a fool’s errand. Also, the stores have had Halloween decorations up and candy in stock since late August, so from a commercial standpoint I am actually behind the curve. I could mention that the local Walmart set up their Christmas section on September 1st, but that would send me into a rant that might run for 1,000 words before we get to the songs.
In any case, here are a few songs you can play at your Halloween party that won’t make your guests cringe like last year when you just played “Monster Mash” and “Transylvania Twist” on repeat all night. Just never forget Randy’s three rules for surviving a horror movie from the film Scream:
