How Rocketbook Saved My Classroom!

My name is Maggie Robbins and I have been teaching middle school math for over 25 years. Five years ago I accepted a math teaching position at a STEM middle school which is a 1:1 digital environment. All students use computers in class and paper consumption is discouraged for teachers and faculty. I struggled with how to teach my math students in this electronic world, because let’s face it “You Can’t Type Math”. On top of this, my principal was constantly reminding me that I was out-of-control when it came to using paper. I was convinced that there was a way for math teachers to survive in the tech world without paper- there just had to be a different method.
I researched every possible solution. After hours of struggle and concern, at last I finally found the answer — The Rocketbook on Kickstarter!
I began by using the free Rocketbook pdf’s with my classes. For the students who didn’t have a phone, I purchased iPod touches which allowed me to service up to 7 students per device. The kids loved it! It was a totally new teaching and learning experience. The Rocketbook was a game changer across the board. Students were now able to save and upload their handwritten work to me! Wow!!!
I was (and continue to be) so impressed with how the students respond and how it brought math into the digital domain that I contacted the developer, Joe Lemay, and invited him to present the Rocketbook Wave to my students. Joe was a big hit and being able to microwave a notebook to erase it — Are you kidding?
For the past 3 years, my math students have been using the Rocketbook Wave and Everlast with great success. They use the notebook to work out problems in class, organize their notes in the cloud, and submit their handwritten math work to me through Google Classroom. I am no longer using an excessive amount of paper AND parents love that the book is reusable.

Go Rocketbook Team! — You’re making a big difference in education.
