Many Rocklin parents of small children are about to start their Thanksgiving holiday break. The holiday spirit is starting to set-in in the neighborhoods. I want to share a heartwarming story that is unfolding in Rocklin this Christmas.

Ron’s Christmas Lights at Concord Road

On November 21st, Connie Gidal, a longterm Rocklin resident and a great neighbor, posted a message on the Next Door website that touched hundreds of Rocklin residents. Connie’s message stated that she recently met a young woman named Mandy. Mandy shared with Connie that her father, Ron, has late-stage cancer. Mandy also shared that her father loves to do extensive Christmas decorations. Ron has been doing Chrismas decorations for the last few decades. Ron loves to sit by the window in their living room every evening and watch people drive slow to enjoy the decorations.

Unfortunately, Ron’s health is not excellent. His children have been helping with the decorations lately. Mandy asked Connie if she would ask Rocklin neighbors to stop by to see Ron’s Christmas decorations between Thanksgiving through Christmas (5–11 pm). It would mean a lot to Ron and his children.

The great neighbors of Rocklin have started to make plans to visit Ron’s home during the holidays. Some want to sing his favorite Christmas Carol — The Silent Night. Some will take their annual family photos in front of Ron’s decorated home. Some may bake Ron’s favorite peanut butter cookies and sugar cookies. Some may ask the Girls Scouts to visit Ron’s house to sing a carol or two. The list of things that the neighbors want to do to show love and compassion for Ron is growing like the spirit of Christmas.

I also plan to take my children and visit Ron’s Chrismas decorations and take pictures. I hope to post updates to this beautiful story of coming together in Rocklin. We all wish Ron, Mandy, and their family a very Merry Christmas in advance. Also, a very Merry Christmas to all our thoughtful neighbors on Next Door.
