Why most people fail to learn to code
This is how I fail and how you can avoid it.
Perhaps you’ve been there. First, you are super-hyped and motivated. Things are easy and fun.
Hours behind the computer screen mean nothing. You are a coding superstar, learning like there is no tomorrow.
Then stuff gets boring. Sluggish. Hard.
Progress is slow. It’s not fun anymore. You feel stupid.
You doubt yourself. Is this really what you want to do? Do you want to become a programmer?
You quit.
That’s where I am right now. Is learning to code worth my effort? Do I want to pursue this?
I don’t know. I still don’t have an answer. I know I could do it. It’s still a long journey ahead, though.
I’m not quitting right now.
I just continue to do baby steps.
Enki helps, as well as koan-styled challenges like 4Clojure.
Persistence is the key. If you want to succeed, you need to do it.
That’s where most people fail. You can’t be a programmer overnight. Learn something every day.
Don’t quit right away. Give it time. Persist.
