If dog is our best friend, then craft beer comes in a close second.

Put them together and you’ve got the Brewer’s Memorial Ale Festival, an annual gathering of dogs, their humans and dozens of craft breweries held at the Rogue Ales Brewery in the coastal town of Newport, Oregon.

This year marks the tenth anniversary of BMAF and the folks at Rogue have planned their biggest festival ever, an entire weekend of dog inspired entertainment, such as…

Doggy Olympics

Dog Washes

Cutest Dog, Best Trick, Doggy Musical Chairs and Fashion Contest

Representing the Seattle Seahawks.

And of course beer. Festival goers get to taste samples of more than 30 microbrews from regional craft breweries.

BMAF was created to honor the memory of Brewer, the faithful black lab of Rogue Brewmaster John Maier. Brewer grew up inside the brewery, rising to the rank of Rogue’s Chairman of the Board, a position he holds today.

Brewer was loved by everyone at Rogue, but especially John and his wife Stacey.

A festival dedicated to dogs and beer seemed like a fitting tribute to Brewer. In keeping with Rogue’s commitment to serving the local community, BMAF is also a fundraiser for Lincoln County animal charities which this year includes…

Friends of Lincoln County Animals
Lincoln County Dog Lovers
Lincoln County Animal Shelter
Oregon Coast Therapeutic Animals
Central Coast Humane Society
NW Boxer Rescue
Doggy Do’s and Dont’s

Ten years later and Brewer still looms large over the festival. One of the highlights in the Brewer Look-A-Like contest.

BMAF draws dog and beer lovers from hundreds of miles, but none are as dedicated as Rogue Ambassador Mike Hanson and his daughter Leah Hanson.

They’re walking to BMAF from their home in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, a distance of 600 miles.

It’s their personal journey to raise awareness and funds for their nonprofit Help Every Little Paw, which rescues abused pets and pays for spaying, neutering and other medical bills for pets whose owners can’t afford these services.

By the way, this is the second time they’ve walked to BMAF.

Here’s what you need to know to join us at BMAF.
