Our friends at POP! Gourmet, the makers of the Original Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce Popcorn, are joining us as we celebrated #SrirachaWeek, March 7–13.

We like popcorn about as much as we like beer so we decided to set up a tasting panel to pair a few Rogue brews with their Original Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce Popcorn to find out which flavors paired best.

The Rogue Tasting Panel assembles.

We chose 4 Rogues: Sriracha Hot Stout (obviously), 4 Hop IPA, Good Chit Pilsner, and Beard Beer.

Sriracha Hot Stout & Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce Popcorn

Panelists found the combination of Sriracha & Sriracha complementary. Fans of the Rooster sauce liked this pairing where spice meets spice. But the stout manages to temper the heat found in both the beer and the popcorn.

4 Hop IPA & Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce Popcorn

Meanwhile, panelists seeking to emphasize the capsaicin heat, went for an IPA. The 4 Hop IPA did the trick since hops tend to bring out chile spices. And since it’s a sessionable IPA, it packs less of an ABV punch.

Good Chit Pilsner & Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce Popcorn

A light but hoppy lager can often be a good fit for spicy food. But our panelists noticed that the Sriracha in the popcorn was just a little too overpowering for our Good Chit though.

Beard Beer & Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce Popcorn

Of the 4 pairings, our panelists liked this one the best. The Beard was flavorful enough to hold its own against the spice, heat and Sriracha flavors but not so much that it battled the spice. A nice fit by all accounts.

Which Rogue ales & lagers would you pair with Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce Popcorn?
